Christopher Redfearn
is the Conductor of the Colorado Mormon Chorale. Originally from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Christopher received the Bachelor of Music in Choral Music Education from Brigham Young University in 2000 and the Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University in 2004. He is currently pursuing the Doctor of Arts degree in Choral Conducting and Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
Christopher has conducted choirs at all age groups, from children's choruses through middle and high school aged singers, collegiate choirs and adult community choirs. Most recently, he was Director of Choirs at Kearsley High School in Flint, Michigan, where he conducted five choirs, coordinated the school musical and served as K-12 District Fine Arts Chairperson. While at KHS, Christopher's choirs consistently received high ratings at area festivals. He also began an annual tradition of performing large choral/orchestral works, including Mozart's Missa Brevis in D, Vivaldi's Gloria, J.S. Bach's Magnificat and Rutter's Requiem. In addition to his duties at KHS, Christopher also was Artistic Director of the New Century Chorale, a 60 voice community chorus from Grand Blanc, Michigan. At UNC he teaches elementary and secondary choral methods and serves as assistant director in Women's Glee Club and Prima Voce, a 24 voice chamber choir. He served his LDS mission in the Colorado Denver South Mission, so coming back to Colorado has been a treat. Christopher met his wife Jennifer in the BYU Marching Band (he played trumpet, she played clarinet.) They have three children: Jonathan, Abigail and Joshua. They are expecting their fourth child in May 2011.
KRISTIE BEMENT is the Chorale's Associate Conductor. Kristie was born in Valdosta Georgia. Her dad was a pilot in the Air Force which meant she traveled around the states a bit. While they were stationed in North Dakota her parents were introduced to the church by their neighbors, the Bartholomews. Kristie was baptized a month after her parents at the age of nine. She graduated early from High School in Virginia and headed out to BYU. While at BYU, Kristie majored in voice performance and skiing. Her parents moved to Boulder during her junior year. Kristie transferred to CU, and changed her major to Music Education, graduating with a BME in 1982. Kristie met her wonderful husband at the student ward in Boulder, and was married May 29, 1981. Kristie worked for a couple of years before her children were born, (Denver, Weld county Re-3J, and Boulder School Districts). Kristie has three sons, Michael, Matthew, and Mark. Kristie has held every church music calling there is in the church. Yes, even priesthood pianist while at BYU. Some of her favorite callings have been Young women’s president and Gospel Doctrine teacher. Kristie is currently the ward choir director. Besides helping out with the chorale, Kristie teaches full-time at Windsor Middle School as the vocal music teacher (choir-director.) Kristie also directs the Windsor Community Choir. When she's not doing something with her family or music, she is usually working on family history.
